WRITING ON THE WALL
© Hazel O`Connor
Down a
tunnel, in a tube
On the floor, knocked down by booze
Busy man has blown his fuse
While crossword people look for clues
I say sir, get your nose out of the paper
Take a good look at what's going down
Get clued into the shape of
The shape of things to come
Have you
seen the writing on the wall?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Reaching out for you it calls
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Did you look for your cause?
Writing on the wall?
Life, I'm
told's a compromise
Lethargy in disguise
Excuses by the faint of heart
Stuck in the mud before they start
I say sir, wouldn't you rather be
on top of the world
As opposed to always travelling
underneath the ground?
Have you
seen the writing on the wall?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Reaching out for you it calls
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
Did you look for your cause?
Have you seen the writing on the wall?
I say sir,
get your nose out of the paper
Take a good look at what's going on
Get clued into the shape of
The shape of things to come

REINVENTION
© Hazel O`Connor - A. Karner
I've seen
people walking, sleeping, talking, chalking
up the scorchings of their amores
They're moving, grooving, crusing for a
bruising, winning, losing and I'm singing the blues encore
Cause there's
something inside of me I left behind
and there's something inside of me
I just, I just got to find
It's reinvention
re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
(I'll say it again)
It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
At times
I have been needing, I've been
feeding on a meeting, with them people
who are cheating with a smile.
And they do their best to let me see
heh every dog can have this day
and I'm singing the blues with style
because
there's something inside of me
it's ready to explode
and there's something inside of me
I know, just got to grow
It's reinvention
re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
(I'll say it again)
It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
I searched
the whole world over
look and never find
but lately I have realised that
all I saw with my two eyes
ain't nothing, nothing
It's reinvention
re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
(I'll say it again)
It's reinvention re-i-n-v-e-n-t-i-o-n
RUNAWAY
© Hazel O`Connor
You
hate yourself, so you hate everybody else
People can make you fell small
Small is a size when age just won't rise fast enough
So you wait for the day, to be up get away
Run, run as fast as you can
Over and over and over the hill faraway
Runaway
Is there something you're trying to say
Runaway
Please come home one day
Runaway
Is there something you trying to say
Over and over and over and over again
I
remember the day in a grey misty way
When I boarded the boat to the hook
I was sick to the sea that was beckoning me to it's end
In the light of the dawn, feeling ragged and worn
I pointed my thumb to the sky
Over and over and over that road again
Runaway
Is there something you're trying to say
Runaway
Please come home one day
Runaway
Is there something you trying to say
Over and over and over and over again
Now in the light of experience
There's something I want to say
Now in the light of experience
There's nowhere to run to
If from yourself you're really running away
Runaway
Is there something you're trying to say
Runaway
Please come home one day
Runaway
Is there something you trying to say
Over and over and over and over again
SPANCILL HILL
(traditional)
One night
as he lay dreaming of pleasant days gone by
His mind being bent on rambling to lreland he did fly
he stepped on a vision and he followed with the wind,
when at last he came to anchor at the cross of Spancill Hill.
Then on
the 23rd of June the day before the fair,
When Irelands sons and daughters and
friends assembled there.
The young and the old, the brave and
the bold cametheir dutie to fulfill
At the Parish Church in Clooney a mile from Spancill Hill.
He went
to see his neighbours to see how they did fare,
The old ones were all dead and gone
the young ones turning grey.
He met with tailor Quigley hes as funny as ever still,
Johnny used to patch his britches
when he lived in Spancill Hill.
He paid
a flying visit to his one and only love,
Shes as gentle as a puppy and as pretty as a doll
She threw her arms around me saying,
Johnny I love you still,
Sure shes Ned the farmers daughter and the pride of Spancill
Hill.
He dreamt
he held, he kissed her as many a time before,
Oh Johnny youre only joking as many a time before.
The cock he crowed in the morning he crowed
both clear and shrill,
He awoke in California many miles from Spancill Hill.
TIME
AFTER TIME

Time after
time, I will follow you,
I lay myself on the line, I'll always try for you
Because you, you are my inspiration
you, you are my destination
That's
why time after time I choose you
Night after
night, I have dreamed of you
I see your smile, see your face, how can I ever hide from you
Because you, you are my inspiration
you, you are my destination
Time after
time, I will follow you,
I lay myself
on the line, I'd even die for you
Because you, you are my inspiration
you, you are my destination
That's
why time after time I choose you
Time after time I choose you
time after time
HANGING
AROUND
© The Stranglers
Big
girl in the red dress
She's just trying to impress us
'Cos she's got the barley fever
But she doesn't make a sound
She's just hanging around
Down
the court road early
With the Hustlers big and burly
There's a million of'em selling
And the buyers can be found
They're just hanging around
Christ
has told his mother
Christ has told her not to bother
'Cos he's alright in the city
'Cos he's high above the ground
He's just hanging around
One
of'em comes closer
Got a monkey on his shoulder
And the monkey's getting grinner
But his eyes are on the ground
He's just hanging around
I'm
moving in the colehelme
With the leather all around me
And the sweat is getting steamy
But their eyes are on the ground
They're just hanging around
TELL ME WHY

Tell me
why, why, why when a man wants a woman
does he give her his best, does he try to impress
all the things he will do for her, why,
when that man gets that woman, does he
tend to neglect her, does he tend to forget all
the things, all the things that he said to get her
all the promises that he made, gonna lose
what he gained, cause the...
Time has

give him her heart, does she then fall apart

Time has
come for things to change
gotta change
And why
does a woman, why does a man
turn something special into a battle ground
When they both know what they're fighting
is just a losing battle against the power
of love which nobody ever wins
Tell me
why, why, why when a man loves a woman
why can't he change, just rearrange all the
things that does to hurt her why when

MY FRIEND JACK
© Hazel O`Connor - A. Karner
How many
roads had I gone, I got to
Feeling like I can't go on and on
Lord it seems, it gets so lonesome when
You're following dreams
And why was I on that road, where
The angels fear, like a fool I chose
To give a stranger a ride in the night,
He said, "heh listen here darling, I'll
Open your eyes"
I've been
up to the bottom, and down to the top
Better not give up until you drop.
There's a time to live, there's a time to die
My friend Jack said, he'd tell me why.
You see
Jack was a guy back in Vietnam,
He had a key to survival, to dream of a better time,
And boy, joy is a thing of the past
You gotta believe in the future or you won't last
Oh I believe,
I believe in love
Oh I believe in the lord above
Oh I believe in a better life for
You and me and you
Well, the
next day he was gone, was he dead
Or had he up and run,
And talk with him all his hopes and his dreams
Me I was left with my nightmares and screams
I've been
up to the bottom, and down to the top
Better not give up until you drop.
There's a time to live, there's a time to die
My friend Jack said, he'd tell me why.
Well I
made it back from that bloody war,
My future what had it all been for
No heroes welcome and my woman had left.
See my name is Jack in case you hadn't guess
Oh I believe,
I believe in love
Oh I believe in the lord above
Oh I believe in a better life for
You and me and you
So little
lady when your feeling lost
Remember old Jack, remember the cost
So you got no shoes and you wail and weep
But remember there's a guy who ain't got no feet
DRIFTWOOD
© Hazel O`Connor
Sitting
on the sunny shoreline, see some driftwood
come to rest
worn out by the tides, born up by its endless rides
never free, just a bit like me.
I've been that piece of wood I've been tossed about
Upon the ocean of illusion, confusion.
Bitter and twisted like waves lashing out at the rock.
Well I
now know I just gotta find
that shore line oh yeah, that little peace of mind
and let the sun shine on me
I swam
the sea of passion, jealousy and pain,
ignorance pretends to drown, grabs for your hands
again, drags you down again.
Yeah, but my soul cries out just to break those chains,
Well listen you who've travelled all these jungles
concrete and the other kind, you know there's more
you got your own key the door, go on open it open it up
Well I
now know I just gotta find
that shore line oh yeah, that little peace of mind
and let the sun shine on me
Been a
long time from my home and I want
to get back there,
but most of my memories got washed away with the tide
a friend waits for me at the edge of the sea
my soul is your lover I cry
Oh beloved
wipe away these tears from my eyes
of my illusion, my confusion.
Brittle and twisted like waves lashing out at the rock
Well I
now know I just gotta find
that shore line oh yeah, that little peace of mind
and let the sun shine on me...

I am the
blackman and you are the white
I am the deviant and you're always right
I am the darkness and you are the light
I am the blackman, you're the white
Yeah you are the good little holier
Than thou, hide your head in your hand
You hear no, see no, speak no no no no
Understand
I am the
blackness, I am the dark
I am the alcoholic pissed in the park
I am the girl who sold her body to the dark
I am the truth of it, you are the hypocrite
I am the
dirty and you are the clean
I live in places where you've never been
I eat the garbage and you eat the cream
I am the dirty, you're the clean
You give me the first degree for being different to thee
You hit me, kick me, tell me you're what I should be
I am the
blackness, I am the dark
I am the alcoholic pissed in the park
I am the girl who sold her body to the dark
I am the truth of it, you are the hypocrite

I am the traitor, but I put you on the rack
I am the coward and I shoot you in the back
I am the white man, I paint you black
Yeah I am are the good little holier
Than thou hide my head in my hands
I hear no, see no, speak no no no no
Understand
I am the

D-DAYS

Hazel O`Connor
Put on
your face, put on your clothes
Going out dancing, pose, pose
Wind our bodies round and round
Move to the rhythm of the fare rave sounds
These are
the decadent days
These are the decadent ways
These are the de de de de de decadent days
De de de de de de decadent days
Swing to
the left, swing to the right
Thrust your hips to the flashing light
Whirling dervish here's the rule
Sweating hot but you stay cool
These are
the decadent days
These are the decadent ways
These are the de de de de de decadent days
De de de de de de decadent days
The whole
room is vibrating
With all our bodies shaking
But still they're hesitating
From really taking it, making it, taking it
DO
WHAT YOU GOTTA DO
© Jim Webb
Hey,
I can understand how it can be
Kind of hard to love a girl like me
I don't blame you much for wanting to be free
I just wanted you to know
I've loved you better than your own kin did
From the very start
It's my own fault for what happens to my heart
You see I've always known you'd go
So
you just do what you gotta do
My wild sweet love
Tho'It may mean I'll never kiss those sweet lips again
Pay that no mind, just chase that dappled dream of yours
And come on back and see me when you can
Now
I know they make you sad
Make you feel so bad
Say you don't treat me like you should
They got ways to make you feel good
I guess they got no way to know
I've had my eyes wide open from the start
And boy, you've never lied to me
The part of you they'll never see
Is the part you shown to me
So
you just do what you gotta do
My wild sweet love
Tho'It may mean I'll never kiss those sweet lips again
Pay that no mind, just chase that dappled dream of yours
And come on back and see me when you can

WILL YOU?
© Hazel O`Connor - Wesley Magoogan
You drink
your coffee and I sip my tea
And we're sitting here playing so cool, thinking What will be, will
be
But it's getting kind of late now
Oh I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or will you just politely say goodnight?
I move a little closer to you, not knowing quite what to do
And I'm feeling all fingers and thumbs, I spill my tea, oh silly me!
But it's getting kind of late now
I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or will you just politely say goodnight?
And then
we touch much too much
This moment has been waiting for a long long time
Makes me shiver, it makes me quiver
This moment I'm so unsure
This moment I've waited for
Is it something you've been waiting for, waiting for too?
Take off your eyes, bare your soul
Gather me to you and make me whole
Tell me your secrets, sing me the song
Sing it to me in the silent tongue
But it's getting kind of late now
I wonder if you'll stay now, stay now, stay now, stay now
Or will you just politely say goodnight?
